WELCOME!
St. Philip's Parish in Blackburn North is in the Eastern region of the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne. Originally part of the Blackburn Parish, St Philip's was officially established as a Parish in its own right in 1966.
Our parish is a faith-filled community where the Gospel of Jesus Christ is proclaimed and the sacramental life of the Church is celebrated. There are various groups in our Parish that support the work of the Church through prayer and practical assistance.
Our Parish Church, opened in 1989, is where we gather to encounter Christ and to experience the beauty of the Catholic Faith and its traditions that have been handed down to us through the ages. In our liturgical life we strive to worship God in spirit and in truth, recognising that the Liturgy is Christ's gift to His Church.
"In the earthly liturgy we share in a foretaste of that heavenly liturgy which is celebrated in the Holy City of Jerusalem toward which we journey as pilgrims, where Christ is sitting at the right hand of God, Minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle. With all the warriors of the heavenly army we sing a hymn of glory to the Lord; venerating the memory of the saints, we hope for some part and fellowship with them; we eagerly await the Saviour, our Lord Jesus Christ, until he, our life, shall appear and we too will appear with him in glory." Sacrosanctum Concilium N.8
Sacred music is an important part of the Liturgy. At St Philip's we have fostered the use of chant, traditional hymnody and organ music. A beautiful feature of our Church is the historic Fuller pipe organ. We have a volunteer choir that rehearses weekly - and is always ready to welcome new singers!
As well as those who gather on Sundays, we have a large number of weekday Mass goers who attend the 9.00am daily Mass. Many stay afterwards to pray the Rosary together. On Saturday mornings, the 9.00am Mass is in the Extraordinary Form - 1962 Missal in Latin.
St Philip's Primary School was founded in 1965. The religious education curriculum is supported by the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, which has been introduced across all levels of the school. Spacious grounds include a large oval behind the school buildings.
We always look forward to welcoming new parishioners. We encourage you to make yourself known and to complete a census card that is available in the narthex of the Church.
Please contact us if we can be of assistance to you.
May our holy patron, St. Philip the Apostle, pray for us!

PRAYER FOR POPE FRANCIS
Pro Pontifice
V. Let us pray for our Sovereign Pontiff, Francis.
R. The Lord preserve him and give him life, and make him blessed upon the earth, and deliver him not up to the will of his enemies.
Almighty and everlasting God, have mercy upon thy servant Francis, our Supreme Pontiff, and direct him, according to thy loving-kindness, in the way of eternal salvation; that, of thy gift, he may ever desire that which is pleasing unto thee and may accomplish it with all his might.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

PRAYER FOR ARCHBISHOP PETER COMENSOLI
Archbishop of Melbourne
God, eternal shepherd, you tend your Church in many ways and rule us with love.
You have chosen your servant, Archbishop Comensoli, to be a shepherd of your flock.
Give him a spirit of courage and right judgment, a spirit of knowledge and love. By
governing with fidelity those entrusted to his care, may he build your Church as
a sign of salvation for the world.
